In Columba College excellence and achieving your personal best is our priority. To motivate students towards the highest possible goals the school has developed an awards system which recognises student achievement across a range of activities. Teachers are encouraged to expect only the highest possible standards of work and behaviour from their students.
In Columba College all students are important and we expect all students to achieve to the fullest of their potential. Nothing less will satisfy us.
Columba College use the VsWare Behaviour System. On a daily basis teachers record points for both positive and negative behaviour. This initiative promotes and recognises students good work and engagement in the school community. Parents have access to their students records via a mobile phone application – they can track all the great work our students are doing.
Attendance is such an important part of succeeding in school both holistically and academically. Here at Columba College we constantly monitor our students attendance, to ensure that our students achieve their full potential during their time here with us in school. We reward excellent attendance each term, and at the end of year awards ceremony.
Students are encouraged from first year to participate in this national search for academic excellence. Columba College has in recent years hosted and has been successful in the scholastic aptitude tests which are criteria for entry into the highly academic summer programme held in Dublin City University.
The annual awards ceremony, held in May provides a very special occasion for our entire school to come together and celebrate all the achievements of individuals, classes and teams throughout the school year. Students receive formal acknowledgement of their dedication and hard work throughout the year. Last year, we had two awards ceremony’s, the first whole school awards ceremony to recognise the hard work of our student leadership initiatives and of the various different teams from 1st year to 6th year. Our evening Awards ceremony was later that night. Here at Columba College we pride ourselves on the various different achievements of our students, after all it is our students that make our school what it is.
In May of each year Columba College hosts a celebration evening as our students graduate from our Transition Year Programme. This evening is a showcase for the families of each participant. It provides an opportunity to honour each student’s contribution to and involvement in this rewarding programme.
The Graduation Celebration for 6th year students is held in May of each year. This impressive occasion is organised by our staff and students. It provides a final formal occasion of celebration for students, parents and teachers in the school environment. This celebration celebrates the growth and development of our students and tracks their time in Columba College. It celebrates their achievements and marks the rite of passage of leaving school moving on to bigger and better things. It highlights our students contribution to school life in Columba College and how they have made our school into the community it is.
